On July 31, the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development released the 2019 National Statistical Bulletin of Engineering Survey and Design, showing that 4.631 million people were employed by enterprises with survey and design qualifications at the end of 2019. The total amount of newly signed engineering survey and design contracts signed by enterprises with survey and design qualifications totaled 807.42 billion yuan, up 2.1% year on year; The annual operating profit of enterprises with survey and design qualifications was 280.3 billion yuan, an increase of 20.8 percent year-on-year.

In accordance with relevant provisions of the engineering survey and design statistics system, the Ministry of China has made statistics on the basic data of qualified engineering survey and design enterprises in 2019, which are hereby published as follows:
I. General situation of the enterprise
A total of 23,739 engineering survey and design enterprises participated in the statistics in 2019, an increase of 2.4 percent compared with the previous year. Among them, 2,325 engineering survey enterprises, accounting for 9.8% of the total number of enterprises; There were 21,327 engineering design enterprises, accounting for 89.8% of the total.
Ii. The situation of employees
In 2019, 4.631 million people were employed by enterprises with survey and design qualifications at the end of the year. Among them, 158,000 were surveyors, an increase of 8.0 percent over the previous year; The number of designers was 1.025 million, an increase of 10.7% compared with the previous year.
There were 2.192,000 professionals and technicians at the end of the year. Among them, 428,000 had senior professional titles, an increase of 6.8% compared with the previous year; There were 72.0 million people with intermediate titles, an increase of 6.4% compared with the previous year.
Iii. Business situation
In 2019, the amount of newly signed engineering survey and design contracts signed by enterprises with survey and design qualifications totaled 807.42 billion yuan, an increase of 2.1% compared with the previous year. Of this total, 247.71 billion yuan was signed on the design of housing construction projects and 97.74 billion yuan was signed on the design of municipal projects.
The total value of newly signed contracts was 4.607.13 billion yuan, an increase of 10.8% over the previous year. This figure includes 1.953.82 trillion yuan of new contracts for housing construction projects and 652.11 billion yuan of new contracts for municipal projects.
The total value of newly signed contracts for other engineering consulting services reached 104.85 billion yuan, up by 22.0% over the previous year.
Iv. Financial situation
In 2019, the business revenue of enterprises with survey and design qualifications totaled 6.420.19 billion yuan. Of which, the revenue of engineering survey was 98.69 billion yuan, an increase of 7.9 percent compared with the previous year; The revenue of engineering design was 509.49 billion yuan, an increase of 10.5% over the previous year; The total contracted project revenue was 3.363.86 billion yuan, an increase of 29.2 percent over the previous year; The revenue of other engineering consulting business was 79.60 billion yuan, up 21.1 percent from the previous year.
The annual operating profit of enterprises with survey and design qualifications was 280.03 billion yuan, an increase of 20.8% compared with the previous year; The total profit was 272.16 billion yuan, an increase of 10.9% compared with the previous year; Net profit was 228.52 billion yuan, an increase of 11.7 percent over the previous year.
V. Science and Technology Activities
In 2019, the total expenditure of science and technology activities in the engineering survey and design industry was 152.05 billion yuan, an increase of 29.1% compared with the previous year; The company owned 246,000 patents in total, an increase of 21.8% compared with the previous year; Enterprises have a total of 57,000 proprietary technologies, an increase of 21.2% compared with the previous year.
